Barakaat will be holding auditions for new members on Saturday, January 14, 2012 and the following Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 2-4PM at the MAC Harbor East! This is your opportunity to become part of one of the most dynamic, creative and well-respected troupes in the Baltimore/DC area. Barakaat performs at events such as the Smithsonian’s Asia After Dark, Rakkasah, Art of the Belly and Samra Ya Raks; not to mention numerous haflas, fundraisers and showcases. Attendance is required on both audition days. Individual/private auditions will not be offered. The January 14 audition consists of a general belly dance skills assessment and short choreography in a group setting. On January 21, prospective members will perform the choreography they learned the previous week as well as present a 3-4 minute solo performance of their own creation. Show us what you’ve got!
Auditions are open to any and all dancers regardless of stylization. Although all are welcome, it is recommended that dancers possess an advanced and/or professional skill level. If you have any questions or want to RVSP and schedule your solo presentation slot, please contact us.

- An overview of the troupe and our expectations will be provided during the group audition.
- The skills assessment consists of technique drills in a group setting to allow us to assess your skill level.
- The choreography will be taught in a group setting and you will perform it the following week.
- No video of the choreography will be provided, nor are you permitted to film in the studio. Copious note-taking is allowed, of course.
- The 3-4 minute solo is your opportunity to show us what you can bring to the table. Choreography and/or improv, props, any music, any style – whatever you think will impress us!
- You will be filmed in both the group and solo auditions.
- No special attire is required – whatever you would wear to a regular class is fine.
- The MAC is located at 655 President St, Baltimore. They offer parking validation up to 2 hours for $1.50 or there is a $3 all-day garage on the corner of Fleet and Eden. There is also free parking scattered around Little Italy.
